Museum of Discovery Marks Anniversary of Program that Discounts Admission for SNAP Recipients
Little Rock, Ark. (July 10, 2023) – Museum of Discovery is celebrating the fifth anniversary of its Science for All program that allows participants in the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) and five additional guests to receive a discounted admission of $2 each.
More than 22,500 guests have utilized the discount to experience Museum of Discovery’s hands-on educational programming and enjoy its 90-plus exhibits. Science for All is the Museum of Discovery’s adaptation of the Museums for All program, a joint initiative of the Association of Children’s Museum and the Institute for Museum and Library Services. The national average guest participation rate for museums that offer a discount to SNAP recipients is 3.25 percent. However, Museum of Discovery’s is 6 percent of all walk-up attendance in the five years since the program began and 7.2 percent so far in 2023.
“We are happy so many people have utilized the Science for All benefit to visit our museum,” said Kelley Bass, Museum of Discovery CEO. “Removing the financial barrier for lower-income people is a key goal of the museum’s strategic plan, and we hope more SNAP recipients will continue to come here to enjoy all our museum has to offer.”
Bank of America has sponsored Science for All since it began in 2018. “Bank of America is proud to have partnered with the Museum of Discovery for more than two decades,” said Heather Albright, president of Bank of America Arkansas. “For the past five years, we have specifically supported the museum’s ‘Science for All’ program, because its efforts to serve and create equal opportunities for families of all backgrounds directly align with our values. Museum of Discovery provides a valuable service to the community, and we are proud to celebrate this milestone with them.”
Additionally, Bank of America provides free admission to their cardholders the full first weekend of every month at more than 225 museums across the country, including Museum of Discovery, through its Museums on Us program.
Anyone who receives SNAP benefits can show their EBT card and a valid state-issued ID at the museum admissions desk to receive $2 general admission for themselves and five additional people in the party.
Regular museum admission is $12 for adults, $10 for children and free for members.
