Museum of Discovery Discounts Admission for SNAP Recipients
“Science for All” program makes museum accessible to more Arkansans
Little Rock, Ark (July 10 , 2018) – The Museum of Discovery announced today that it is enacting a “Science for All” program that will allow all participants in the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) to receive a discount on admission when they visit the museum.
Beginning immediately, anyone who receives SNAP benefits can show his or her EBT card and a valid state-issued ID at the museum front desk to receive $2 general admission for the card holder and five additional people in the party. Regular museum admission is $8 for children 1-12 and $10 for adults. Bank of America, a longtime supporter of the museum, is providing funding to help offset the cost of the program.
“Museums are a source of education, emotion and creative inspiration,” said Magen Price, Arkansas Market Manager, Bank of America. “Bank of America is delighted to support this opportunity to make art accessible for everyone despite their financial challenges. We believe in this effort along with the continued great work that the Museum of Discovery is doing in Arkansas and are proud to continue our partnership with them.”
“Science for All” is the Museum of Discovery’s adaptation of the Museums for All program, a joint initiative of the Association of Children’s Museums and the Institute for Museum and Library Services that was launched in late 2015. More than 270 museums in the United States participate in the program.
“We at the Museum of Discovery are eager to be accessible to more people who will enjoy and benefit from the museum experience,” says Kelley Bass, museum CEO. “The Museums for All program, which we are calling Science for All, has been well-received at participating museums, and we are hopeful thousands of Arkansans will take advantage of this offer and come to love the Museum of Discovery.”
Bass said the museum is partnering with the Arkansas Department of Human Services, the Arkansas Food Bank, other food banks around the state, Goodwill and other organizations who work with low-income Arkansans to publicize the Science for All program.
“Unfortunately, many people don’t think of the museum experience as something that is possible for them,” Bass said. “We are hopeful our new Science for All program will eliminate those perceptions.”
Museum of Discovery’s mission is to ignite and fuel a passion for science, technology, engineering, arts and math through dynamic, interactive experiences. For more information regarding “Science for All” call 501-396-7050.
