Entergy “Arkansas” Powers World Record Tesla Coil at Museum of Discovery
Little Rock, Ark. (Oct 5, 2017) – The Museum of Discovery announced today that Entergy Arkansas is the new sponsor of its Guinness World Record musical bi-polar Tesla coil.
The coil debuted in 2015 and has been witnessed by thousands of visitors. The coil – named after its inventor, Nikola Tesla, the developer of the alternating current system of electricity used today – creates high-voltage electricity at a high frequency visible to the eye.
“We’re proud to power the Tesla Coil at the Museum of Discovery,” said Rick Riley, President and CEO of Entergy Arkansas. “At Entergy, we build on the principles of science discovered by Tesla to power homes and businesses today. We hope the coil will spark interest in science, math and technology for those students who see it.”
The Museum of Discovery’s coil emits 200,000 volts of electricity as it plays a variety of well-known songs. It is one of two world record bi-polar Tesla coils; the other is housed at the Hands On! Regional Museum in Johnson City, TN.
“Entergy has been a long-time supporter of the Museum of Discovery,” says Kelley Bass, museum CEO. “But never has a sponsorship opportunity been more directly aligned with Entergy’s mission than its support of our Tesla coil and the engaging programs our educators present in the Tesla theater. We greatly appreciate Entergy’s most recent affirmation of its commitment to the museum’s mission and its consistent annual support.”
Museum of Discovery holds Tesla shows daily in “Tesla Theater Powered by Entergy”. For information on the Tesla shows, visit www.museumofdiscovery.org
