Diamonds Exhibit Shines Bright at Museum of Discovery

Museum of Discovery unveils “Diamonds,” its new feature exhibit, this Saturday.  The exhibit focuses on diamond formation and exploration across the world – and particularly in Arkansas.

“Diamonds” contains 38 interactive exhibits or informational panels that explain how diamonds and other gems form, their properties as well as international and local mining.  Visitors will also see rock and mineral samples, rough cut diamonds and reproductions.

The science center modified the exhibit to include information related to diamond formation at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro and a history of the mining operations and major visitor finds at the park, according to Museum of Discovery CEO Kelley Bass.

“Everyone in Arkansas knows that one of the things that makes our great state unique is Crater of Diamonds State Park and the fact park visitors can keep the diamonds and other gems they find, the only place in the world that is the case,” Bass says. “We are proud to illuminate the history of diamonds in Arkansas, and all its many facets, but we’re also sure our museum guests will enjoy learning how diamonds are formed, mined and processed into exquisite gems.”

“Diamonds” will remain on exhibit at Museum of Discovery through October 21. For more information, visit www.museumofdiscovery.org.
